 2023 Preview

Cleburne County finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Cleburne County just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 4A region four with a 2-4 region record.

Since 2010, Cleburne County has gone a combined 62-78. Their 44.3% winning percentage ranks 39th in Class 4A over the past thirteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Cleburne County has managed to compile a record of 156-123. Their 56.0% winning percentage ranks 18th in Class 4A and 125th in the AHSAA.

The Tigers are led by head coach Joby Burns who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 12-28 over the past four seasons at Cleburne County. The Tigers have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Burns. The Tigers have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 4A. Their opponents had a combined record of 66-47 last season. That ranks 9th in Class 4A and 45th in the AHSAA.

The Tigers will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region four this season. After just 2 wins last year, Cleburne County will be hoping to become more competitive in the region.

The Tigers open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Northside on Friday, September 1 at Northside Stadium. Last year the Northside Rams finished with an overall record of 8-3 and in third place in Class 4A region five. The Rams lost in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs to Etowah by a score of 42-21.

Cleburne County and Northside have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 1-1-0 record against the Rams. They last met in 2022 with Northside winning by a score of 13-7.
